John Green is one of my favorite writers. When I found out that two of his books are translated in Bulgarian I was extremely happy. Now you can find in the Bulgarian bookstores his debut novel “Looking for Alaska” and his new bestsellar “The fault in our stars”.
John Green writes books for young adults, he has a YouTube channel (link) and an army of fans called “nerdfighters”. I read “Looking for Alaska” a while ago and I really liked it. I highly recommend it and especially to those of you who still go to school. This book is going to be one of your favorites.
“The fault in our stars” was in the top positions of every list with bestsellars. To be honest I quite hesitated to read this book because the story looked like it is going to be pretty sad. I read the book and it is indeed very sad, it is not appropriate if you want to read something lighthearted on the beach.
Hazel is 16 years old and she suffers from lung cancer. This is the first John Green novel that is told from a girl’s point of view. One day Hazel’s mother decides that her daughter is depressed and makes her go to Cancer Kid Support group. There she meets Augustus who has lost his leg due to bone cancer. The difference between them is that he has good chances for survival. The book tells their love story.
Hazel's favourite book does not have a proper ending. She really wants to know what happens to the characters after the end of the novel. Augustus uses his cancer wish by the Genie to bring her with him to Amsterdam so they can meet the author.
This John Green novel has an unexpected turn like all the other ones. I give this book four stars because it is incredibly sad and not everyone likes to get upset by a book. The novel is beautifully written and the story is very engaging.
