Urban Decay X Alice through the looking glass eyeshadow palette

 9.05.2016

A few years ago Urban Decay released a limited edition eyeshadow palette in collaboration with Disney’s movie Alice in Wonderland. I couldn’t get it back then, but I really liked it. Alice in Wonderland is such a pretty movie. When I heard that there is going to be another palette accompanying the new Alice through the looking glass movie, I was determined to get it this time.

The packaging of the new palette is amazing, the illustrations are so beautiful and it’s very much in the spirit of the movie. A downside is that it’s made of out cardboard and it probably won’t look as good after a while. It’s also quite big and heavy, I’ll probably keep it at home, it’s definitely not the best palette for travelling. The colours on the packaging and the eyeshadow colours in the palette are taken from the movie. If you watch the trailer or even better the movie itself you’ll see that this palette is like taken straight out of it. You get 20 shades 1,3 g. each which is a lot. The eyeshadows are the same size as the ones in the NAKED palettes. The colours are divided into 5 columns, each one dedicated to a character in the movie.

If I have to be extremely critical there are probably around 5 shades that did not met my high expectations.  But the palette contains 20 eyeshadows so you are still left with 15 good ones.  The shades in this palette are quite colourful so it’s not like with the Gwen palette (review here), where the colours look very similar to each other, you can do a lot with this palette. Some of the eyeshadows are really unique and the quality is amazing. The colours in the forth row are just gorgeous.

Urban Decay X Alice through the looking glass eyeshadow paletteThe disappointing eyeshadows are the bright shades. If you are after brights you may end up disappointed. I don’t like the greens Hatter, Heads will roll, Bandersnatch and I’m usually very keen on greens. The blue Metamorphosis is especially disappointing because it’s supposed to be the accent in Alice’s look and it’s just not pigmented. The only glitter in the palette is Dream on and it’s all chunky sparkles, no pigmentation. The palette as a whole is not very shimmery - it’s mostly pearly shades and colours with some fine sparkles in them. You don’t need to worry that you’ll end up with shimmer all over your face. The eyeshadows are a little bit powdery, it’s typical for Urban Decay,  you can live with it. I really like The Mad Hatter makeup look (the second column on the left), the colours are very unique and the combination is really clever. The shade Gone mad is also not very pigmented, but it works great for this look, so I still like it.

Urban Decay X Alice through the looking glass eyeshadow paletteThe orange shade Paradox and all the colours in the forth row of the palette are phenomenally good. The palette is quite warm in terms of colour and it’s very wearable. I use it as an everyday palette. There aren’t many dark shades, but you get transitional colours and a good amount of highlighters. You can do a lot with this palette, 20 shades are a lot. It took me forever just to swatch them. I think it’s worth the money.

Urban Decay X Alice through the looking glass eyeshadow paletteAlthough Alice through the looking glass has some problems I don’t think that there is a girl who won’t like this palette. It can be a great gift! The palette is out in Europe on Urban Decay’s websites.  There are five lipsticks in this collection which also look great.
