What I read this month July 2014

15.08.2014

I am once again late with writing this post. I expected to read more books in July, but I read only four and one of them is pretty short.

1. Beautiful oblivion by Jamie McGuirethree stars
Page number: 336
Publication date: July 2014
Translated in Bulgarian: no, but the previous two books Beautiful disaster and Walking disaster are translated in Bulgarian

In May I read Beautiful disaster by Jamie McGuire and I really liked the love story in this book. The main characters there are Abby and Travis. Travis has a few brothers and Beautiful oblivion tells the story of one of them Trenton. To be honest I found the love story in Beautiful oblivion quite boring and I am surprised that this book got so many positive reviews. The story takes place at the same time as the story in Beautiful disaster and we meet again some of the characters. Jamie McGuire's writing style is captivating, but Trenton and Cami are not very interesting as characters, at least for me. If you are looking for a good love story though I highly recommend you to read Beautiful disaster.

2. Quiet. The Power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking. by Susan Cainthree stars
Page number: 368
Publication date: January 2013
Translated in Bulgarian: yes
I am an introvert so after I found out that there is a book dedicated to introverts I had to read it. I guess that half of the people on Earth have had the same thought and this is the reason why this book is a bestsellar. Quiet is a detailed look into the differences between the introverts and the extroverts. There are a lot of interesting facts in this book, but for me it was a little bit too long and in the end I was kind of bored. I was even surprised when I checked the number of pages and found out that the book is only 368 pages. According to Susan Cain the introverts are more sensitive and they react strongly to their enviroment. The contact with people burdens them more. In Quiet you can find advices on how to take care of an introverted child, how to be in a relationship with a person from the opposite type. This book is interesting, but I think that being an introvert or an extrovert is not that important in life. It is true that extroverts are more liked by other people, but this fact does not make them happier. If you are inetrested in this subject Quiet is a good book.

3. These broken stars: A starbound novel by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spoonerfour stars
Page number: 384
Publication date: December 2013
Translated in Bulgarian: no
The story in These broken stars is something between Titanic and the Tv show Lost. It takes place in the future where people can travel easily through space and have discovered new planets. Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the galaxy and Tarver is a war hero, who doesn't come from a wealthy family. They meet on a spaceship. After an accident they are stranded on an unknown planet. Lilac and Tarver have to fight for their survival. I like LOST and I liked this book too.

4. Poke the box by Seth Godinfive stars
Page number: 96
Publication date: March 2011
Translated in Bulgarian: no, but many of the other Seth Godin books are
I really like Seth Godin and I read his blog daily. Poke the box is a short book and it is about why you shouldn't be afraid to start new things.
